With non-essential retailers now open, and pubs and other businesses being able to soon: it’s time to make sure we’re still supporting Macclesfield’s small businesses. Throughout lockdown, online shopping has been on the rise and many businesses have relied on online orders using selling platforms such as Etsy.com. However, as we enter ‘the new normal’, it’s more important than ever to continue to support our towns local businesses.
Skyzack is passionate about helping small businesses to become more visible, both online and offline. Because of this, we’d like to share just some of the ways that you can continue to support small and local businesses post-lockdown.
Gift vouchers & bookings:
From 4th July, many places will reopen, including hairdressers: we must not be the only ones who desperately need a haircut!? Have you tried to cut your own or a loved one’s hair during the UK lockdown, to discover you took your hairdresser for granted? Skyzack’s founder and director, Jim, has his appointment booked with Scissors Hair & Beauty for when they reopen their salon doors.
Although beauty salons etc. are unable to open, many can take future bookings. Pre-booking is a great way to show you support whilst giving yourself something to look forward to. What’s more, bookings that require a deposit can help to support financially.
Buying gift vouchers can also help Macclesfield’s small businesses, and make great gifts for loved ones. Whether for yourself or a friend, vouchers are a way to buy a treat to look forward to when restrictions lessen. Pamper treatments from Touch of Beauty at Scissors or a photo session at Ollier Photography can both be bought with gift vouchers and used at a future date.
It’s been great to see many local restaurants and cafes in Macclesfield offering takeaway services recently. Gurkha Dining and Substation, among others, have been go-to’s for the Skyzack team. Many offer both delivery and collection, which means you can get your delicious takeaways without having to leave your home!
Supporting small businesses can be as easy as making a small change. If you can, buy something weekly from a local business that you would usually get from a chain or supermarket. E.G. Fancy a pizza at the weekend? Instead of that well-known chain, try NEW delicious fresh pizzas from Flour Water Salt!
Along with making purchases, there are other ways to help. Leaving a Google review is an easy way to help from your home is an easy way to show support. Many people, probably including yourselves, look at reviews to assess the quality of a company/product. Taking a few minutes to leave a review can show others that the seller is trustworthy and that their products are of high quality. Reviews also boost morale, letting small business owners and staff know that they are valued and supported.
In addition to reviews, share and tag pictures of your small business purchases, or share their posts on social media to increase visibility. These small, quick acts may not seem like much but can make a big difference. They are so easy to do and helps to encourage our town’s amazing small businesses.
